The Importance of Falconry Techniques for the Well-Being of Birds of Prey

Conditioning and Confidence
One of the main goals of applied falconry management is to help the bird adapt to the presence of the team, training equipment, and care routines. This conditioning process makes handling safer and more predictable, while also strengthening a relationship of trust that reduces stress during activities.
Exercise and Natural Stimulation
Training sessions encourage movements that are essential for birds of prey—such as flight, movement, focus, and responding to calls—thereby promoting physical activity and behavioral engagement. This type of training is especially valuable for animals that need to maintain muscle tone, coordination, and energy levels as part of ongoing technical management.
Welfare in Daily Management Routines
In addition to exercise, falconry promotes a more relaxed and intimate approach to handling the birds, allowing for a more precise observation of each animal’s behavior and development. In technical contexts, these practices can also be linked to environmental enrichment and daily monitoring, expanding opportunities for individualized care.
Technique, care, and follow-up
In practice, falconry applied to modern management involves repetition, consistency, and respect for each bird’s pace, always with the goals of care and well-being in mind. More than just a demonstration, it serves as a technical tool that contributes to a more effective and enriching monitoring routine.

A História do Zoo Park Foz
